A five minute ride from the hamlet of Certona through the rolling hills of Tuscany brings you to the entrance of the sublime Villa Toscana. A gentle driveway leads you through the cypress, willow and oak treed front property where the only sound heard is birdsongs. The 3 storied villa, in a shade of ochre, has appeared in the Italian Architectural Digest and in both the exterior and interior, every detail has been exquisitely designed with an eye toward opulence and serenity.
An English colonel came to Certona, a town steeped in Italian medieval history, and built this 400 sq meter villa with loving care upon 10000 sq meters of land. The gardens are meticulously cared for with an underground sprinkler system and boasts a tile split level garden terrace in the front of the villa while a side lawn has a small olive grove. The back garden gently slopes to a rectangular 12x5 mete r swimming pool, terrace and guest house hedged by rows of fragrant rosemary. From every window of the house the view is pure Tuscany.
The villa is entered by an arched antique oak door to the chandeliered front entrance. Guest washroom and cloakroom are located to the side. The double salon has a double vaulted ceiling, fireplace with antique mantel and Tuscan tiled floors. But the eyes are drawn to the 2 large arched windows, with unique sliding antique oak doors, and the resplendent view of the back garden and hills that stretch seemingly forever. You step out onto a large stone split level terrace that can be covered in the summer and from there down into the garden.
Adjoining the salon, on one side, is the paneled library with fireplace and sumptuous appointments. The other side leads to the beamed ceiling dining room which opens to the fire-placed kitchen where any cook would feel pampered. There is a pantry adjacent to the kitchen. Every door on the ground floor is an antique from a Spanish monastery.
From the front entrance a stone, wrought ironed stairwell brings you to the upper floor and a large sensuous sitting room. This room also has a fireplace and large arched windows. The master bedroom has plenty of closets, a dressing room, a full marble bath and an adjoining boudoir. The second bedroom has plenty of closets and a outside bathroom/shower. The third bedroom has a bathroom and like the other two bedrooms, plenty of closets. A set of stairs leads to a small maids bedroom and shower room.
The villa is equipped with a surveillance security system.
